One of the best benefits for high handicappers looking for a new wedge is how simple Cleveland makes their loft and grind combinations for their wedges. Cleveland used a heat treatment on each of these wedges to ensure that the grooves stay sharp for years to come. With extra room in these grooves because of their deeper design, water can move through and pass easily to make sure the ball and clubface make great contact. Most notably, the grooves are designed to perform better out of wet grass. In addition, some of the same technology that better players look for in the grooves of their clubs were featured in the Cleveland RTX Zipcore. ![]() We can’t say that this is the cleanest-looking wedge on the market (stay tuned to learn about the Ping Glide), but we were surprised by how much this looked like a players club. Although some players don’t mind this look, most will tell you it becomes hard to control from a tight lie. You should be warned that any time a wedge says it is forgiving, it also typically gets a bit chunky looking. This allows high handicap golfers to play with a sleek-looking wedge, that still caters for those miss-strikes from 50-100 yards.Īnother thing that stood out about these forgiving wedges is the clean look. ![]() This heel and toe weighting reduces how much the club twists on off-centre hits, creating a more forgiving wedge. The big focus in the Cleveland RTX Zipcore is the increased levels heel-toe weighting. A perfect combination of what a higher handicapper needs to succeed. However, with these new RTX Zipcore wedges, you can get a good mix of forgiveness, typically seen in the cavity backs with the forged-like feel from the blade-style wedges. Cleveland has made quite a few cavity back wedges in the past that were a great fit for higher handicaps. ![]()
